Yogi Berra Falls, Taken to Hospital. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the 85-year-old former catcher caught one of his sneakers on the carpet in the clubhouse Thursday and fell on his backside. Cashman said Berra did not fall on his head.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi, Cashman and executive Gene Michael were present as Berra left Steinbrenner Field. Cashman said Berra "did not want to go" to the hospital.

"He is alert and in good spirits," said a Yankees spokesman, who described the trip to the hospital as precautionary.

Berra, 85, often travels with the Yankees when he visits spring training. He made the 25 minute trip from the Yankees' spring training home in Tampa to Clearwater.
