Prince William and Kate Canada Day overtaken

Prince William and Kate Canada Day overtaken. The holiday that celebrates the unification of three separate British colonies into what is now ‘Canada’ is a bit like the Fourth of July in the U.S. Fireworks, concerts, a parade. Nothing too over the top, especially when it’s an unimportant anniversary such as the 144th.

Except this year, the royal couple is coming for a visit, and so preparations have been ratcheted up a notch, or 10. Crowds in Ottawa, where Prince William and Catherine, duchess of Cambridge, will spend Canada Day (July 1), and kick off their nine day tour, are expected to exceed half a million.

When Queen Elizabeth II visited Canada Day last year, the fervor was nowhere near this year’s. International journalists covering the queen on Canada Day: 18. International journalists covering the royal couple on Canada Day: an incredible 274.

Prince William also got his own personal flag made for the visit, which was unveiled by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Wednesday, and will be flown from any building or vehicle he is in during his stay (see above).

Upon their arrival, the royal couple will be treated to a new piece of music created just for them by the Pipe Major, or director of bagpipe music. The piece is called “St. Andrews Courtship,” a saccharine nod to where the couple first met. If that’s the only musical performance planned for their trip, the queen wins on at least one front. Gets 10 years in drug case Reggae star Buju Banton

Gets 10 years in drug case Reggae star Buju Banton. A federal judge sentenced Grammy winning reggae singer Buju Banton to 10 years in prison Thursday, the lowest sentence legally allowed for his role in a large cocaine trafficking deal in 2009.

The 38 year old Jamaican recording artist got a break when U.S. District Judge James S. Moody threw out a gun conviction, which would have added another five years to the minimum sentence. Banton's attorney, David Markus, said with time already served and good behavior, he could be out in six years.

In a statement he wrote after the sentencing, Banton whose given name is Mark Myrie thanked family, fans and supporters from around the world who flooded the court file with letters of support.

"The days that lie ahead are filled with despair, but I have courage and grace and I'm hopeful, and that is sufficient to carry me through," he said in the statement, which was read by Markus. "The man is not dead. Don't call him a ghost."

Banton, dressed in gray jail scrubs and shackled at the ankles, did not speak in court and did not react when Moody announced the sentence. The tall, thin, dreadlocked singer blew a kiss and waved to his subdued supporters as he was led away.

A jury found him guilty in February of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense and using a telephone to facilitate a drug trafficking offense. Moody threw out the gun charge, acknowledging that Banton had no idea others involved in the conspiracy were carrying guns, which was the basis for the charge. He was not convicted of carrying a weapon himself.

Markus contended that Banton deserved a lower sentence because of his limited participation in the drug buy, his charitable work in Jamaica and his otherwise clean record.

But prosecutor James Preston argued for a longer term, contending that the cocaine deal would not have gone down without Banton's participation. Moody agreed that Banton's participation was key to the deal but declined to increase the sentence.

Preston acknowledged it was a sad day for Banton's fans but noted the distinction between the joyful reggae artist Buju Banton and the drug dealer Mark Myrie.

"He has brought this sadness to these people," Preston said in court, acknowledging Banton's supporters who filled the gallery. Preston declined to comment afterward.

Preston argued during trial that Banton portrayed himself as a broker of drug deals in several conversations with a confidential informant. Preston said Banton thought he was getting involved in a "no-risk" deal in which he would introduce a friend to a confidential informant and then collect money from drug transactions.

Prosecutors acknowledged that Banton did not put any money into the drug deal nor did he ever profit from it. Markus characterized his client as "a big talker" who admitted to trying to impress the confidential informant but wasn't involved in any drug deal.

Much of the case hinged on meetings and phone calls that were video and audiotaped by the informant, who was working with the Drug Enforcement Administration  and who made $50,000 in commission after the bust.

In one video, Banton could be seen tasting cocaine in a Sarasota warehouse on Dec. 8, 2009. But he was not present during the actual drug deal on Dec. 10 that led two others to be arrested. Those two men later pleaded guilty.

Banton testified that the informant badgered him after they met on a trans-Atlantic flight in July 2009 and insisted they meet to set up a cocaine purchase. He said he was so uninterested in the informant's proposals that after they met twice, Banton didn't return the man's phone calls for months.

Markus said he plans to appeal.

"This fight is not over," Markus said. "We will keep fighting for him. Mark Myrie is my brother, and I'm going to keep fighting until they tell me to stop."

Among the dozens of letters of support in the court file were those from several of Banton's 15 children wrote, a Jamaican government official, an NBA player, other reggae artists and actor Danny Glover, who called Banton a "role model, philanthropist and spiritual leader in the community."

"Your honor, Mark Myrie is not a drug dealer," Glover wrote. "Society would not benefit from his incarceration."

Banton's oldest son, also named Mark Myrie, wrote that his father "puts hard work, sweat and tears into his music and that is what (he) `puts on the table,' it has never been drugs....The situation is just an example of our mere imperfections as people, being at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Banton remains wildly popular in Jamaica, and his trial  his second over the drug accusations  was packed with supporters that included other well known reggae artists. The first trial ended in a mistrial last year after the jury deadlocked.

Shortly before his conviction in February, he won a Grammy for best reggae album for his work entitled "Before the Dawn."

By backstage death Daniel Radcliffe musical shaken. NEW YORK The musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" will go on as scheduled Thursday night, a day after the cast and crew were shaken by a death backstage that scrubbed a performance.

A stagehand was found dead Wednesday night just before the curtain was to rise for the 8 p.m. show at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Stars Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette announced the cancellation from the stage.

The producers said in a statement that the "incident was not caused by an accident related to the production." They said the cast, crew and theater staff mourn the loss of a member of their theatrical family.

Police say they responded to a report of a 29-year-old male in cardiac arrest. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released.

Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office, said an autopsy was pending. Bruce Cohen, a spokesman for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, declined to comment.

The show that was canceled was to be the show's 100th performance.

Jennifer Lopez in Talks for Two Major Movies

Jennifer Lopez in Talks for Two Major Movies. Current 'American Idol' judge Jennifer Lopez recently revealed she's on the fence about returning to the judging table, and now we know why. The singer is in talks to star in two upcoming feature films.

According to Deadline, Lopez is up for the female lead opposite Jason Statham in 'Parker,' an adaptation of the Donald Westlake mystery series. Statham would play the title role, a character Mel Gibson and Lee Marvin both in 'Payback' and 'Point Blank,' respectively. Lopez would play Leslie, a love interest for Parker, who gets involved in a heist.

The studio hopes to create an action franchise, starting with 'Parker,' so if Lopez lands the part, there's a possibility she could appear in a sequel as well.

The second role Lopez has on her plate right now is in the film adaption of 'What to Expect When You're Expecting.' Yep, they're making the pregnancy how-to guide into a movie. Lopez would star alongside Cameron Diaz and Matthew Morrison in a supporting role.

So while Lopez circles a return to the big screen (we're not counting 2010's 'The Back-Up Plan') and her 'Idol' judging chair, at least we have her summer anthem 'On the Floor' to get our J.Lo fix until she makes a decision.

Endured 'Uncomfortable' Sex Scene Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake Bad Teacher Trailer. Just working with an ex can be an awkward experience, but how about filming sex scenes together? Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake put their friendship to the test for 'Bad Teacher' in what director Jake Kasdan said was the "most uncomfortable sex scene in history."

Diaz had a good sense of humor about the whole thing, but acknowledged that hooking up with an ex on-screen was a bizarre experience.

"Yes, yes. It was just [an] absurdity, a form of hilarity for all of us involved," she told PEOPLE. "We went to work that day and said, what time do we start being ridiculous? ... Eight o'clock? Perfect."

Katzen says the pair just brushed off the awkwardness and did their job with professionalism and lots of laughs.

"I guess the real truth is that they're good friends ... They're buddies," he said. "They got in there and started doing it. And it was so funny, we just couldn't stop shooting it. And we were doing it almost the whole day. And really crying, laughing at the [video] monitors."

Timberlake and Diaz dated from 2003 to 2007, but have both gone on to seriously date other people. Timberlake recently split from Jessica Biel, while Diaz has been dating New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez for about a year.

Jackass Star Ryan Dunn dies in fiery Pa. Crash

Jackass Star Ryan Dunn dies in fiery Pa. Crash. "Jackass" star Ryan Dunn, who along with his cast mates made Americans cringe and snicker through vulgar stunts in their multimillion dollar TV and movie franchise, was killed early Monday in a fiery car crash. He was 34.

Dunn, a daredevil who gained notoriety for diving into a sewage tank and performing other unsavory stunts, was driving his 2007 Porsche in suburban Philadelphia when it careened off the road, flipped over a guardrail and crashed into the woods before bursting into flames. A passenger, Zachary Hartwell, 30, of West Chester, Pa., was also killed, and speed may have been a factor in the crash, West Goshen Township police said.

The force of impact shattered the vehicle into several twisted and blackened pieces, leaving the Porsche 911 GT3 unrecognizable except for a door that was thrown from the crash and not incinerated. A 100 footlong tire skid marked where the car left the roadway.

Both Dunn and Hartwell were severely burned. Police said they were able to identify Dunn through his tattoos and hair.

Dunn appeared on MTV shows "Jackass" and "Viva La Bam" and the three "Jackass" big screen adaptations. He also was the star of his own MTV show, "Homewrecker," and just began hosting the show "Proving Ground" on the G4 cable network.

G4 spokesman Dave Welch said "Proving Ground," which premiered June 11 with the second episode slated to air Tuesday, was being pulled for now until the network can discuss the show's future.

Dunn also starred in the yet to be released film "Living Will." The film's website describes Dunn's character as a "party bum slacker (who) returns from the dead as a mischievous and perverted ghost."

Movie critic Roger Ebert tweeted about Dunn's death Monday and was criticized by Dunn's "Jackass" co-star Bam Margera and blogger Perez Hilton.

Ebert wrote: "'Jackass'" star Ryan Dunn, RIP. His Porsche flew through 40 yards of trees." He later tweeted, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive," referring to a photograph Dunn posted on Twitter early Monday showing himself drinking with friends just hours before the 3 a.m. crash. The photo has since been removed.

"We understand what he's trying to say," Hilton wrote, "but still this is extremely insensitive!"

Margera erupted in expletives when he tweeted Monday night saying, "I just lost my best friend. I have been crying hysterical for a full day and...Roger Ebert has the gall to put in his 2 cents."

In a statement, MTV praised Dunn's humor and enthusiasm and said he would be missed.

"We are devastated by the tragic loss of Ryan Dunn a beloved member of the MTV family for more than a decade," said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music/Films Group. "The Jackass brotherhood will never be the same."

Dunn was born in Ohio and moved at age 15 to Pennsylvania, where he met Margera on his first day of high school, according to a biography posted on his website.

Dunn, Margera, Christopher Raab (known as Raab Himself) and Brandon DiCamillo, under the moniker CKY for "Camp Kill Yourself," started making videos that featured them skateboarding and performing stunts.

Dunn was working as a welder and at a gas station when Johnny Knoxville, a friend of Margera's through the skateboarding circuit, asked the crew to allow their videos to be part of the series "Jackass," which became a hit on MTV and ran from 2000 to 2002.

Perhaps his most famous stunt, in 2002's "Jackass: The Movie," involved inserting a toy car into his rectum and going to an emergency room, where he made up a story that he was in mysterious pain after passing out at a fraternity party. Dunn's X-ray from the hospital became a popular T-shirt for "Jackass" fans.

That first movie, filmed on a budget of just $5 million, went on to make more than $60 million in the United States alone. The most recent installment, released in 3-D in 2010, brought in $50 million on its opening weekend alone.

In a 2000 stunt, he dived into a tank at a raw sewage plant wearing flippers, a mask and a snorkel.

Autopsies were to be conducted Monday, though it was unclear when the results would be released.

According to court documents, Dunn was charged in April 2005 with driving under the influence after crashing his car in West Whiteland Township, about 2 miles north of Monday's crash site. The documents show he successfully completed a program designed for first-time, nonviolent offenders that allows charges to be dismissed after defendants finish the program.

In the making Jurassic Park 4. Dinosaurs have been extinct since 2001, when “Jurassic Park III” failed to reach the bar set by its predecessors.

But now, Steven Spielberg is thinking about bringing the vertebrates back to life with a fourth installment of the pre historic franchise, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Spielberg has allegedly been talking with Mark Protosevich, who wrote 2006’s “Poseidon,” about bringing “Jurassic Park” back to the big screen. However, according to THR, Universal Pictures says nobody has been attached to the project as of yet, and that it’s still just an idea at this point.

The first film of the trilogy grossed more than $900 million worldwide, while the second, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” raked in more than $615 million. “Jurassic Park III,” with an estimated budget of $90 million, earned just over $360 million worldwide.

'It Is My Dream And I Want To Fulfill It' Ricky Rubio Confirms Joining NBA

'It Is My Dream And I Want To Fulfill It' Ricky Rubio Confirms Joining NBA. BARCELONA, Spain Ricky Rubio is making his long awaited move to the NBA and will join the Minnesota Timberwolves next season.

The highly touted 20 year old Spanish guard ended two years of speculation Friday, saying "I have finally decided to start the journey" to the NBA.

"It is my dream and I want to fulfill it," he said. "After thinking about it a lot, the time has arrived."

The Timberwolves chose Rubio with the No. 5 pick in the 2009 NBA draft. But his $6 million buyout clause at Barcelona of which an NBA team could pay only $500,000 under league rules made him stay in Spain until it came down to a more manageable $1.4 million.

"This is a day our organization and our fans have been eagerly awaiting from the moment we drafted him, and I couldn't be more pleased to welcome Ricky to Minnesota," Wolves President David Kahn said in a statement Friday.

Since his debut in the Spanish league with Joventut when he was 14, Rubio has won numerous titles in Europe. He also helped Spain reach the 2008 Olympic final, a loss to the United States.

"I think all that I have won here gives me strength to go," Rubio said.

But Rubio is coming off perhaps his most disappointing season. His scoring average dropped to 6.5 points and he even lost his starting spot with Barcelona.

Speaking at a news conference at Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium where Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola usually address the media Rubio acknowledged his shortcomings.

"Individually, I could have done things better, but it is a team sport and we had success," Rubio said, adding he was not going to the NBA in an attempt to revive his game.

"I am going because I feel prepared," Rubio said. "I want to play against the best players in the world."

Barcelona won the Spanish league title last week, and Rubio knows he might have to wait awhile for another trophy. Minnesota was an NBA-worst 17-65 last season and is in dire need of a capable point guard.

"It will mean a change of mentality," Rubio said. "Perhaps we won't be fighting for the title, but we will have other goals. I am willing to do whatever the team needs to win as many games as possible."

The Timberwolves also have the second pick in next week's draft and they should be able to add another player to ease Rubio's transition.

Rubio said he hasn't spoken with his new team about what his exact role will be, but he is sure they will want him to add more muscle on his lanky frame.

"The game is more physical (in the NBA)," he said. "I have to hit the weights and get stronger."

Many had speculated that Rubio would try to force his way out of small-market Minnesota to play in a bigger city. But the Timberwolves never pressured the precocious teenager, delicately negotiating until Rubio decided the time was right.

In his last two seasons in Spain, Rubio averaged 5.9 points, 4.4 assists and 1.85 steals in 21.6 minutes. But the Timberwolves believe that Rubio is better suited to the NBA than the European game, which is played on smaller courts and doesn't give guards as much room to operate on the perimeter.

"I like the NBA game as a spectator," Rubio said. "It is very attractive and more open."

Rubio will wear No. 9 for the Wolves, and the team unveiled a special season ticket package Friday to promote his arrival. Fans have been eager to see this flashy passer, and the Timberwolves announced a Ricky Rubio No. 9 package in which they can buy a pair of season tickets for next season for $9 a game.

"Ricky's skill set and feel for the game have made him one of the best young players in Europe for six years now, and at age 20 he's still a young player with a lot of upside," Kahn said. "I expect Ricky to enjoy a long and successful career here in Minnesota."

The Trailer Review Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Advertisements
The Trailer Review Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The adventures of the boy wizard, 56, finally draw to a close with Deathly Hallows: Part 2, aka Harry Potter 8. There's just time for a final fart-off with you know who!

After the comparative disappointment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 which turned out to be about four hours of Harry Potter looking glum in a tent next month's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has a lot riding on it.

It's been claimed that Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will be the darkest Harry Potter outing yet, but does it have enough to give the series the ending it deserves? What could be the last ever Harry Potter trailer appeared online last night, so let's see what it can tell us about the much-anticipated final film ...

1) The trailer opens with a shot of Harry Potter as a baby. As you can see, he's crying. Perhaps even at this young age he knows all the troubles he'll face growing up becoming a wizard, losing his friends, fighting the most evil entity in the universe, getting typecast, having to go to depressing Harry Potter conventions in the middle of nowhere for the rest of his life that sort of thing.

2)Someone has torched the quidditch arena. This means that dark forces are determined to crush Harry Potter forever, but also that there won't be any interminable quidditch sequences in this film. Swings and roundabouts really, isn't it?

3) And here's the man responsible for all the chaos. It's Lord Voldemort, leader of the Death Eaters, semi professional Gregg Wallace impersonator and 1993 UK northeast regional vogue dance championship quarter-finalist. He's trouble.

4) Luckily, Harry Potter and his friends have a secret weapon to defeat Voldemort: Warwick Davis and his metallic Lady Gaga inspired bra. If anything can save them, it's that.

5) Incidentally, if anyone was wondering exactly how dark Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is, the answer is that it's really dark. Incredibly dark. It's so dark that I can't even tell what's supposed to be going on in this scene. It might be Voldemort. It could just as easily be Bruce Willis, though. Or Ross Kemp. Who knows? That's how dark it is.

6) And if anything, this scene is even darker. That thing in the middle might be a flying wizard, or a bat, or just a shadow. It's impossible to tell because it's so impossibly dark. This is certainly the darkest movie of the series, although you can't help wondering whether David Yates has understood the difference between emotional darkness and basic absence of light. I suppose we'll see. Or not.

7) He we see Ron Weasley comforting Herm- ... actually, who is that? It could be Hermione, but it's hard to tell. Honestly, would it kill someone to switch on a light? A torch? Seriously, anything. This is getting stupid.

8) Ah, that's better. For the sake of the audience's eyesight, Voldemort has decided to illuminate the climactic battle with Harry Potter all on his ownsies. Well, I say "battle" it's actually more of a fart off. Full marks to Voldemort, though. He's really giving it some.

9) But Harry Potter can't be defeated that easily. He had lentils for his lunch, and he'll out fart Voldemort if it kills him. Look at the strain on the boy's face. He clearly means business. Voldemort is going to have to dig deep and pull off the biggest fart in human history if he's going to come out on top here. So Voldemort pushes for all he's worth and ...

10) Oh dear. Voldemort strained so hard that he's exploded. That's quite a dramatic overshooting on his part. Anyway, Voldemort farts himself to death, Harry Potter wins and the moral of the entire Harry Potter series is revealed as "Don't strain too much when you fart, or you'll pop". The end.

Rebecca Black's 'Friday' Video YouTube removes. It's a black Friday, indeed, for fans of Rebecca Black's Friday. (Say that three times, fast).

Her (in)famous video of the single Friday has been removed from YouTube as a result of legal wrangling over rights to the song.

In a classic case of girl meets record label, girl becomes unexpected star and girl fights with record label, Black and her team are battling Ark Music Factory over the rights to the song, which became a YouTube sensation when it amassed 160 million views. Ark began charging $2.99 per view of the clip, prompting Black and her lawyer to issue a takedown notice to YouTube and get litigious.

Black's parents originally paid Ark $4,000 to produce the song and video for their 13 year old daughter.

Billionaire Barbie Pimps Her New Reality, Or Is It the Same Old Reality Paris Hilton Visits the Today Show in a Blue Dress. Egad! Billionaire Barbie has been short skirting and leggy flirting around the major TV talk shows this week, promoting her new Oxygen Channel (which, up until today, I admit, I thought was the name of an Australian emo band) TV show, The World According to Paris, which features the heiress doing all sorts of things you could care less about, because really unless she's got the meerkat night eyes working the nekkid end of an amateur sex tape again, you're probably not tuning in.

Still, I give the all grow'd up blonde party girl credit for wanting to document her daily existence for posterity, and her posterior, before it starts to droop and club promoters stop paying her to shake it at their openings.

I actually really liked The Simple Life. I'm not a hater. But if somebody impregnates this woman, well, you're in for a rough lifelong commitment (and, no, I don't mean just with herpes). Enjoy.
