More than 400 of the permanent sculptures have been installed in recent months in the National Marine Park of Cancún, Isla Mujeres, and Punta Nizuc (map of the region) as part of a major artwork called "The Silent Evolution." The installation is the first endeavor of a new underwater museum called MUSA, or Museo Subacuático de Arte.

Created by Mexico-based British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, the Caribbean installation is intended to eventually cover more than 4,520 square feet (420 square meters), which would make it "one of the largest and most ambitious underwater attractions in the world," according to a museum statement.

In doing so, Taylor hopes the reefs, which are already stressed by marine pollution, warming waters, and overfishing, can catch a break from the approximately 750,000 tourists who visit local reefs each year.

"That puts a lot of pressure on the existing reefs," Taylor told National Geographic News. "So part of this project is to actually discharge those people away from the natural reefs and bring them to an area of artificial reefs.

Katy Perry Wows On California Dreams Photos

Katy Perry Wows On California Dreams Photos. Katy Perry kicked off the London leg of her California Dreams tour Thursday night in a skimpy ballet inspired outfit, among several costume changes.

Katy recently told Rolling Stone about going on a diet to prepare for the 95-date tour.

"I'm on a meal plan, which absolutely sucks," she said, "but on Sundays I get to have a cheat day where I go buck wild and eat In-N-Out Burger. Then I'll work out, go to a vocal lesson, run through the entire set at rehearsals, go to dance rehearsal until 10:00 p.m. and then go home and sort through e-mails concerning the production. I feel like I'm training for the Olympics.

Outside a broad downright rots the laughing luxury.

Selena Gomez confirmed her relationship with Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez confirmed her relationship with Justin Bieber. Selena Gomez finally confirmed her relationship with Justin Bieber earlier this week. Of course, after the pair were spotted nuzzling on a yacht together after New Year's and then arm-in-arm at the Vanity Fair Oscars party, this admission is somewhat anticlimactic.

Now that she has something to promote (a new single and music video), Gomez seems to be cool with discussing what it's like to date the world's (arguably) most famous teenager.

Gomez told New York City radio station Z100 Monday that she sometimes takes personally the vitriol directed at her on the internet from Bieber Nation.

"It's hard," Gomez said. "It hurts, it really does. I don't feel like I'm doing anything wrong. I've been best friends with him for a very long time. It does hurt my feelings a lot but I try not to focus on it. I have a strong family and great fans.

Gomez who has received death threats since she started dating Bieber exhibited a surprisingly level head about the verbal attacks, though, as she explained she can relate to the tweenage obsession with a male pop idol... which can lead to irrational hatred for any woman he dares to date.

"... I have to agree with them sometimes," she admitted. "I loved Jesse McCartney. I was obsessed with him. He dated Katie Cassidy when he was 16 or 17. I hated her, absolutely hated her. I was mortified that he was with Katie and I wanted to be with him. He was my screen-saver! I just did a movie ["Monte Carlo"] with Katie Cassidy and she was the nicest person ever."

Meanwhile, while Bieber tours Europe and causes riots, Gomez has been breaking up her promotional duties with apparent fried pickles binges and "Law & Order" marathons.

Michael Gough Passes Away Batman Actor

Michael Gough Passes Away Batman Actor. Michael Gough, who is best known for playing trustworthy butler Alfred Pennyworth in Tim Burton's "Batman" films as well as "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin," has died. He was 94.

Kicking off his career in 1946, Gough starred in over 150 movies and TV shows throughout his time as an actor. He was a staple of the Hammer Films from the 1950s and 1960s and was loved as The Celestial Toymaker in the first run of "Doctor Who." His last major film role was supplying the Dodo Bird's voice in Burton's "Alice in Wonderland."

After the jump, take a look at Gough's five most memorable roles.

Alfred Pennyworth
In the public sphere, the role Gough will be best known for is as Bruce Wayne's trusty butler Alfred Pennyworth in the "Batman" series. He was originally cast by Tim Burton in 1989, and continued the role up until Michael Caine replaced him in Christopher Nolan's 2005 reboot "Batman Begins."

The Celestial Toymaker
But for "Doctor Who" fans, Gough is best-loved as The Celestial Toymaker, who appeared alongside the first Doctor, William Hartnell, in 1966. He later returned in 1983 to play the old friend of the fifth Doctor, Peter Davison.

Arthur Holmwood
Gough became a cult favorite in the 1950s and 1960s thanks to his repeated roles in the horror movies made by Hammer Films. He played the honorable Arthur Holmwood in the 1958 version of "Dracula" where Christopher Lee starred as the title character.

Lord Ambrose D'Arcy
He also starred as Lord Ambrose D'Arcy in the 1962 version of "The Phantom of the Opera." Gough played the wealthy, pompous man who tries to seduce leading lady Christine and who ends up being harassed by the titular Phantom.

Tim Burton's films
After his roles in "Batman" in 1989 and "Batman Returns" in 1992, Gough returned several times for roles in Burton's films. He played Notary Hardenbrook in the 1999 adaptation of "Sleepy Hollow," the voice of Elder Gutknecht in 2005's "The Corpse Bride" and then came out of retirement to record a voice in 2010's "Alice in Wonderland."

Debby Ryan Next Miley Cyrus

Advertisements
Debby Ryan Next Miley Cyrus. Miley Cyrus has shed the wig, Demi Lovato's gotten real and Selena Gomez has come down with Bieber Fever. With its stars graduating, Disney needs a new leading lady.

Debby Ryan may be that new star.

Ryan has taken center stage on the hit show "The Suite Life on Deck," as country girl Bailey Pickett, and has brought the show, which stars twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse, to the top of the Disney Channel a spinoff of the Emmy-nominated "Suite Life of Zack and Cody," it beat both Cyrus' "Hannah Montana" and Gomez's "Wizards of Waverly Place" in the relevant ratings in both 2008 and 2009.

With that success, as well as the high ratings for her Disney Channel film "16 Wishes," Ryan is getting her own show on the channel. The Hollywood Reporter relays that Ryan will star in "Jessie," another show about a country fish out of water -- Ryan will be the titular character who moves from the country to be an au pair in New York City.

It's a case of life imitating art for Ryan, a Texas native who moved to California for the big time. As she's traveled the world on "Suite Life," Ryan will feature more and more prominently for the worldwide entertainment brand. Ryan was the face of Disney's upfront presentations earlier this week; in addition to "Jessie," Disney will premiere a "Suite Life" movie worldwide on March 25th.

It's a big, important gambit for Disney, and big opportunity for Ryan. Cyrus' run as Hannah Montana has ended for good, while Gomez will soon finish "Wizards of Waverly Place." While it hasn't always been an easy ride for Disney starlets post-Mouse House (see: Lohan, Lindsay), the exposure offered by the studio is an unparalleled career boost. Both sides hope Ryan can wrangle the stardom.
